Why I Volunteer at Hearts That Purr
I first learned about Hearts That Purr through Kasee Artis—better known as That Cat Groomer—while helping a senior client navigate the final stages of life. One of the concerns weighing heavily on their heart was what would happen to their beloved cats. In searching for resources to support both the client and their feline companions, Kasee mentioned Hearts That Purr, a sanctuary dedicated to senior cats who may outlive their humans. (Kasee, who is the groomer for some of my clients, also donates some of her time to grooming or doing nail trims for these beautiful senior residents.)
Initially, I scheduled a tour purely for educational purposes, hoping to better understand how I might guide other clients in similar situations. But from the moment I stepped through the door, I felt something click. The peaceful energy of the sanctuary, the deep sense of care, and the thoughtful mission—it all resonated deeply with me.
As someone who runs a lifestyle concierge business that often supports seniors through life's transitions, I immediately saw how aligned our values were. Volunteering at Hearts That Purr isn’t just a way to give back; it’s an extension of the work I already do—honoring the bond between people and their pets, even in the most tender moments.
I have volunteered with many animal nonprofits over the years and also provided pet care for decades. This place and everyone who makes it what it is, including it's founder, Jeanmarie, and Becky, who are absolutely incredible, along with an amazing group of volunteers and all of the beautiful purring feline hearts in residence and those in foster homes are truly special and Hearts That Purr is EXCEPTIONAL. I’m grateful to be a small part of it.
