Review for Alexandria Singers, Alexandria, VA, USA
I have loved to sing all my life, but for the first 50 years I was afraid to let anyone hear me. So I suppressed that part of myself and avoided all choirs, bands, and other forms of public singing. Even after finally joining the church choir I had no idea how to sing and no confidence to try. More than one person sat next to me and said, “I can’t hear you at all.”
Then I found The Alexandria Singers “Sing for Your Life” workshops. I attended two of these events, which are made available to the community free of charge, for anyone who wants to learn how to sing, or how to sing better.
The transformation was amazing. Not only was I able to project my voice and be heard, but my confidence improved, both as a singer and as a person. I still remember the day that a fellow church choir member sitting in front of me turned around and said, “I can hear you!” He had a smile on his face, so I assume he liked what he heard.
I enjoyed singing in public so much that I decided to audition for The Alexandria Singers, because I wanted to sing even more, and I needed a social life. They accepted me in every sense of the word. The more I sang with them, the more confident I got. There are still moments during rehearsals or even performances, when I think to myself “Who is this person inside my body? This is not the shy introvert that I used to be. This is a much more confident shy introvert.”
