I studied BRAC in graduate school many years ago and my children read about BRAC in their international relations programs, especially the impact that BRAC has had on public health including the introduction of ORT in Bangladesh. The more I have learned about BRAC the more impressed I am. It is an organization that came out of the second poorest country in the world and has grown to be a global leader in doing development differently and having impact at scale. Most impressive is their business model which combines social enterprises and Micro finance which create impact in and of themselves, but also generate revenue for the social development programs. I think I was most impressed when I learned about the graduation programs which have lifted more than 10 million people out of poverty and 10 years later, the program participants continue to be better off than their peers.
