Kansas Legal Services has been a God send for me. I was served papers and in the process of being sued for a medical bill by the local hospital even though I had insurance at the time. I made several attempts to work something out with the billing department but was told the bill was too old for them to bill insurance. The hospital would not relent and continued to have a collection agency pursue payment from me. I had heard of KLS helping indigent and less fortunate people and i was desperate for someone with the knowledge of how the legal process works to help me fight back. Not being able to afford the bill and feeling wronged by the fact that they should have billed insurance I desperately reached out to KLS in hopes that they would be able to set the record straight. I filled out the application and received a call the next day. After explaining my situation I was told my info would be forwarded to the correct department and the call ended there. I hung up the phone feeling defeated and was sure I was going to get the short end of the stick. To my surprise I was contacted by Matt Keenan, only an hour after speaking to KLS. He asked me a few questions and within minutes told me he personally would take my case and that he was "ready to go to war". Matt diligently worked with me and kept in contact with me about the status of my case almost daily. He stayed positive during the whole process which helped me immensely and even when I thought we were at a stuck point, he pushed through it and in the end he was able to break through the chaos and came out victorious. I can't thank KLS and especially Matt Keenan enough for being so patient, kind and understanding of my situation. I've never had someone fight so hard on my behalf. The Whole KLS team was awesome to work with and have by my side. They made the impossible, possible, and for that I am eternally greatful.
