I've been donating through the Kiva.org website since 2009, so 16 years so far. Back then I hardly had any money, so the small dollar amount donation option helped, plus reading stories of the prospective borrowers helped me to realize I had more to be grateful for than I thought, like clean water and a working indoor toilet.

I've always liked knowing exactly how my donation will be used, and Kiva takes that to levels that I have not seen anywhere else. You see the photo and read the brief story of the actual exact person that would receive the microloan. I really enjoy that selection process, picking who I will give to next. You can even see profile names & countries of the donors around the world that have already given to this particular loan. During lonelier times in my life, I have found that very heartening to see clear evidence of other kindhearted thoughtful people in the world.

Apparently I have made 293 microloans throughout the years with Kiva, but it hasn't felt like it. It has felt easy. These are loans not gifts, so most of the time most or all of the loan is repaid so I can use that money over and over again to help more people.
