Adopting from Southern States brought my "soul dog" into my life. Axel came from a home where only the child have him the attention he needed, the parents just fought about having him. Eventually they gave up on poor Axel, and fortunately Southern States took him in.

I adopted him a few months later after an in-depth house interview and several phone interviews. One of the women who fostered him actually drove him all the way from Austin TX to Abilene TX to bring him to me! It was shock at first sight - he was the biggest Rottweiler I'd ever seen!!

But like all rotties, be showed his personality and made friends with my other dogs, but the biggest change was between him and me. We became inseparable.

Long story short and a lot of loving memories later, we lost Axel to lymphoma in May 2020. That was the hardest, most emotional day of my life.

If it weren't for SSRR, my life would not be the same. I fully plan on adopting again at some point, but at the moment I help out with transporting Rottweilers to their new foster or adopters' homes. It's gratifying seeing so many people come together for a common love of a breed 💟
