Review for Scottsdale Musical Arts, , ,
Our son is a member of the Scottsdale Youth Orchestra which is a part of the Scottsdale Musical Arts Organization. It has been a great experience for him so far to be a part of a much larger and more balanced musical group than his school band. He has improved in his performance with his bassoon and he also has a better appreciation for music in general.
Brett Robison, the orchestra director, does an awesome job with the kids. He is friendly and easily approachable, but also offers them critique and correction when they need it. He leads them well and is an experienced and very competent conductor. We are glad that our son has had the opportunity to be a part of the Scottsdale Youth Orchestra and recommend it to others whenever we have the chance.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Watching our son become a better bassoonist and learn about how to play as part of an orchestra as well as gain an even better appreciation for classical music and music theory.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
The only real criticism I have is that we need a better way to distribute information to the parents. A lot of times it comes in paper, via email or via special meetings so sometimes it is tough to keep track of it all, especially if there are changes. It would be great if there was a central place for all news and events parents need to be aware of online. But that is a minor critique considering they do try to communicate, it's just a matter of convenience.

Our son's former school band director used to be a member of the adult choir and invited him to come to a concert and try out for a spot in the youth orchestra.
What, if any, change in your life has this group encouraged?
As I said before it has been a good experience for us in watching our son become a better bassoonist and learn about how to play as part of an orchestra as well as gain an even better appreciation for classical music and music theory. We also enjoy attending the concert performances of both the youth and adults.
