BurnedBeauty2018
Review for Face Forward International, Beverly Hills, CA, USA
I guess I should start by saying that my husband set me on fire after 15 years of emotional abuse. I had no idea that emotional abuse was even abuse and I believed him when he said it was an accident. After I was able to remember what happened, I was in a crisis because I am disabled and was struggling to find a way to get out of the house in which I still lived with him. Face Forward International became aware of my story through social media and contacted me. I felt so seen and heard when I spoke to Mandi, the Executive Director. I submitted my application and the Board quickly approved me to move to Los Angeles and receive a complex nasal reconstruction and a surgery to my lower eyelid to preserve my vision.. Within 40 days of that first conversation, I had been relocated to safety. Two weeks later, I met with my surgeon who put together a team of doctors. Any insurance company would consider it purely aesthetic to restore the tip of my nose that was burned away. Every time I look in the mirror it reminded me of him. It’s important that we have access to surgeries that simply make us whole again. I am grateful to be safe and I am especially grateful for what the future promises and it’s because of the emotional and physical healing that I have experienced thanks to Face Forward. The Board is kind and capable and we are all thankful to Deborah Alessi for founding this nonprofit. We need more organizations like this.
