I was the principal of an elementary school that was very fortunate to have had Playworks. I can say without a doubt that it was the more profoundly positive thing that I ever did for the well being of my school and I am certain that every teacher, parent and student that experienced this would back me up. This is why I have continued to serve on the Southern California Board for many years. I can tell you that before Playworks came to my school, that the playground was the largest challenge that we faced. The children at my school were wonderful and their families were extremely supportive but we would have daily issues that would start on the playground that we struggled with. I went from about 8 to 10 referrals to the office from the playground per day to none, the very first day that our first Playworks Coach arrived at our school! This was repeated for the entire time that I was the principal at that school. The beauty of this program is that it is repeatable, reliable, and is completely centered around children have a huge variety of competing choices when they are on the playground. Children are free to engage or not, they have complete choice. The secret is that the choices that Playworks offers are SO COMPELLING that every child choices to engage. If we could find a way to bring this program to every child, it would be a miracle.
