Review for Homefront America, Inc., San Juan Capistrano, CA, USA
This past Friday morning, I volunteered with Homefront America, Inc., to help set up its free toy store for the children of those in active military service as part of the organization's Christmas celebration. That's what this nonprofit does – it supports our service members throughout the year, often focusing on their families during critical times and notable holidays. Although I wasn't present on Saturday, about 1,000 children walked away with big smiles, two new toys, and a generous gift card to do their own shopping. I am told that most of the time, the kids use the gift card to buy something for another loved ones, such as siblings and parents. It's empowering for them.
At the annual Heroes Nite Out, active service members and veterans are celebrated during a dinner with live music, inspiring words, door prizes, and an appropriate level of pomp and circumstance. Many bring their spouses for a special dress-up occasion, and donors sponsor active military attendees to receive raffle tickets for all the spectacular door prizes. It's a free event for those in service and their spouses.
Through the years, I have attended numerous events, supported outreach programs, and volunteered with Homefront America. I have seen the way it brings people together and provides thoughtful assistance wherever needed. As a 100% volunteer organization, everything they do is deeply personal, and their efforts are heartfelt. Mamie and Adam Maywhort are the driving force behind this great organization, and their tireless dedication inspires hundreds of volunteers and generous supporters. This is a nonprofit in which everyone involved rightfully feels unwavering devotion and pride.
I've included four photos in this post, including one of me with Mamie.
