I have taken a group of kids from Kansas City with cancer to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for the past 22 summers and watched them blossom beyond my wildest dreams as they experienced the love and support they found there. It was always so sad when they became too old to attend and no longer had such an amazing place to find the kind of support that only such a place could provide. When Billy Kubicek announced his dream of starting the Next Step for these kids I remember thinking that it was a brilliant idea and that if anyone could make it happen, it would be him. Now as I read the remarkable stories of how he has changed lives, given hope and created a bright future for a population of young people that don't quite fit into the classic "graduate from college, get on with your life" profile, I am overcome with gratitude to Billy and his staff.
