I am the Executive Director for the Senior Resource Center for Douglas County in Douglas County, KS. For many years, Kansas Legal Services has conducted a monthly outreach with the older adults of Douglas County as one-on-one appointments here in our Center. Additionally, KLS has partnered with us to offer an annual clinic for end-of-life planning documents for the community. To say these opportunities to work with KLS are popular would be an understatement! We receive calls nearly every day from seniors seeking legal assistance, many of whom are low-income. Through our referrals, the KLS team is in high demand by the seniors of our community. KLS has built an outstanding reputation and it is well-deserved. I have witnessed countless seniors and their families benefitting from these services to take care of their legal needs, especially the needs which are specific to older adults who are preparing for the end of their lives. The clients regularly tell us how much they appreciate the service, and how they were treated with respect. The kindness and compassion the attorneys use with these vulnerable individuals affords them the dignity we all want, regardless of income or reason for the appointment.
