I have had the great privilege of working with Jeri Baker and One Spirit since 2008. After researching numerous nonprofits and visiting Pine Ridge, I consistently heard one name: One Spirit. When I was introduced to Jeri, it quickly became clear that this organization was exactly what I had been searching for. The vision of collaborating with the Lakota people to support their dreams resonated deeply with me, and I witnessed this mission in action through One Spirit's various programs.
It has been incredible to see initiatives like the Allen Youth Center transform from a dream into reality. The Charging Buffalo House now provides traditional meat and employment opportunities, and the Okini list has evolved into an actual store where community members can select their own items. Additionally, One Spirit offers vital support through programs focused on food, firewood, regenerative gardening, and an impressive workforce development initiative.
I’ve had the honor of collaborating with One Spirit and Horse Spirit Society to organize horse camps for youth. Through these experiences, I’ve gained a profound appreciation for the beauty and culture of the Lakota people, who have so much to teach us all. My travels to Pine Ridge have fostered lifelong friendships and allowed me to immerse myself in the richness of this remarkable culture, all thanks to One Spirit.
I know the heart of this organization lies in its dedication to providing opportunities, employment, and support for the sovereignty of the Lakota nation. They strive to be responsible stewards of their donations, ensuring that every contribution makes a meaningful impact.
It is a privilege to be involved with One Spirit, and I look forward to many more years of this important work
