I have been lending money through Kiva for more than 10 years. I especially appreciate being able to lend to people from El Salvador, single women, and people who need medical treatment for their eyes. You will easily be able to find a cause that is of meaning to you. There is no fee to make a loan through PayPal and my loan immediately shows up in my porfolio so I know that it went through.

I like Kiva because the borrowers don't have to sign away their home or risk their families being threatened should they have difficulty paying back the money. That being said, I have made over 600 loans and it is very rare that a loan is not paid back.
