I spent several years volunteering with Students Rising Above (SRA) because they provide the key pieces of support for students in need to complete college. These young people have what it takes inside to make it (they have the drive and dedication) but they are lacking the mentorship, guidance, and emotional support at home that's essential to navigating the system and completing college. This is where SRA comes in to make the difference.

My husband and I had the honor of serving as mentors for SRA, where we developed a close relationship over time with each student. We spent time just hanging out, then later taking them to visit prospective colleges, and finally moving them into their college dorm rooms, and staying in contact for years, getting to hear about their amazing accomplishments. We saw first hand what a difference it makes when students have ALL the services and personal support they need to thrive and graduate college (financial scholarships alone are not enough).

I can't recommend this non-profit enough for the direct impact they make in so many students' lives and the broader community in general.
