Review for Snowbird Outfitters Inc, Andrews, NC, USA
Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters is unlike any camp I have had the pleasure of being a part of. I had never been in a camp atmosphere that combined the idea of extreme fun (ropes courses, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, and much more) with an unapologetic and straightforward message of what is means to be a Believer. Snowbird does not ‘water down’ the Gospel message or the Christian walk and while staff and campers are ‘loved on’ they are held to a standard that is way more than simply legalism…they our held accountable for what it means to be in a relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
I am only 23 but I can honestly say that up to this point working at SWO was the most physically, emotionally and spiritually exhausting thing I have ever done in my life…and was by far the MOST rewarding. The opportunity to work with, to pour into students and to see God using their time at camp to change their lives, and help them grow in their Spiritual walks was amazing.
What was also amazing (and unlike I had experienced before in a camp setting) was the community of the staffers as a whole. With a summer staff of a little over 100 it was incredible how close we became in such a short time and how close many of us still are (SWO family keeps growing!). I made close friends in my time at SWO who I know I will be friends with for the rest of my life.
It was new for me how much the full time staffers invested and poured into us. They recognized that though we were there for the summer we wouldn’t be there forever and wanted to encourage and teach us in our personal lives, for the summer yes, but for the future as well and wherever God was calling us.
My time at SWO impacted my life in so many ways: It gave me lifelong friendships, gave me the opportunity to serve God in a context in which few have the opportunity, confirmed the direction God is calling on my life, and in all of the above strengthened my relationship with God.
