Review for Trauma and Resiliency Resources, Inc., Callicoon, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

TRR is a well designed 7 day program for combat vets struggling with issues ranging from PTSD to moral injury. It is an intensive program that moves between group and individual modalities.

During the course of my time here, I had one on one EMDR for two hours a day for five days (not including intake and discharge), equine assisted psychotherapy in group and individual settings, yoga (group & individual), narrative medicine (group), and native healing (individual and group).

The schedule and setting are precisely calibrated to facilitate the myriad modalities and individual/group sessions. The staff and clinicians work tirelessly to ensure that care is extended to all individuals in a complicated group setting.

I learned a lot about myself, therapy, and others in the process, and the staff and clinicians were always willing and able to hold space and listen to individual concerns and adapt as necessary. They were also able to handle shifts to the schedule, staffing, or logistical issues that arose due to emergencies and/or personal events that may have otherwise hindered the program. I was impressed by their flexibility and adaptability which is a testament to their built in redundancies and awareness of several variables that are in play.

This program is extremely beneficial in exposing veterans to quality care that they will need to continue to explore. For me, I found that approaching my personal issues in more than one way is necessary for progress and healing, and had the space to ask questions and learn about the different modalities I was exposed to.

Additionally, seeing both staff and clinicians who came through this program in the past as participants (combat veterans) and are now part of the program is an indication of its impact in pushing its participants to continue their path of healing and gave me an indication in real time of what is possible.

I am grateful to the program and its staff and clinicians who are dealing with a complex and intense setting. There are details that I noticed (and probably others I did not notice) that indicate the intentional design (quality of tissues, location of programming, gifts to take home, toolkits to consider, and even the readily available healthy snacks etc) that are carefully considered touches beyond the normal modalities of care that I have been used to. Additionally the assembly of clinicians and staff who have open hearts and minds to be here for the participants is an incredible feat, especially considering they are all doing this on a largely volunteer basis.

The program is a gift, but also a lot of work behind the scenes. My hope is that participants and supporters can continue to support this program by giving back in whatever way they can to this effort. I intend to do the same. Thank you.
