My name is Nenetzi Yañez.
Last April I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The process was not easy, but thanks to Olga Rodríguez and NWFS everything has been easier.
In February, during a self-examination, I detected a lump in my breast. I was on my period and thought it would go away, but after a few weeks, one day I woke up with pain at night. That made me panic and I had to check myself again. I didn't know where to go, to get care. Searching on the Internet, I found the phone number of my angel Olga for my "Olguita." without her, I don't know what I would have done. From the first call, she gave me the peace of mind of knowing that I could have care and she guided me through the process from the initial consultation with the doctor, mammogram, biopsy, and ultrasound. At the same time, she referred me to a person to get insurance for my care. When the diagnosis finally arrived that changed my life... I was very scared since the beginning they told me that my tumor was growing quickly and I didn't have the resources for my care, but Olga always helped me. When I got the diagnosis, I was approved for insurance, which gave me peace of mind to focus on my health and not on how I was going to pay for it. I arrived at my first chemotherapy with doubts and a lot of uncertainty, but the support group meeting that Olguita invited me to join virtually opened my horizon. I learned about several associations like NWFS and Pink Lemonade, they motivated me to fight and to continue since I had the opportunity to meet and receive advice from many women who, like me, are going through a similar process that is not easy, but we always have hope that this too will pass.
Today I had my third chemotherapy. The doctor gave me good news. My tumor shrank by 3 cm. Every time I can, I will tell all the women in my community that there are programs and associations like Northwest Family Service and Pink Lemonade. Thank you for all the support!
