Review for Faces of Courage Foundation, Tampa, FL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This is a compassionate and caring foundation. Where else could 90 plus children and women have the benefit of being offered a camp where they can forget about cancer for an entire weekend. A weekend packed with activities, and for the children a parade; new friendships, and developing life long friends. Without support from the community and the wonderful fund raising opportunities, the camps can not be made possible to these brave women and children, some in the battle for their life. Think what you would want if this opportunity came into your life. Won't you help support a camper, and allow them the opportunity to "forget about life for a while". (Billy Joel)

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the look in the eyes of the children and the women who attend, and their family members at the end of the weekend when they come to collect the tired but grateful campers.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Follow in Peggie Sherry's shadow. She is an excellent role model for a compassionate manager of a terrific non-profit organisation.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

There is always something new to learn and more and more fund raising opportunities brainstormed, each more successful than the last.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Survivors, teens who wanted to make a difference by being counselors and volunteers, and people who were just generous of heart in giving of themseleves.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Send more campers to camp, have more day camps in the summer, pay it forward.

Ways to make it better...

The weekend would have lasted another two weeks.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Raising and keeping sufficient funds to match the number of campers who want to attend, but we are limited only by what is shared by those who have generous hearts and resources.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Faces of Courage Rocks.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  Volunteer & Assited with the women's and children's camps, and had the opportunity to be a camper a few years ago.
