Review for HUMANE SOCIETY OF HURON VALLEY, Ann Arbor, MI, USA
I adopted two cats from HSHV. I adore my shy Patrick and sweet Lilley. Both of them might have been put down at other shelters. Patrick was a feral kitten, and Lilley was shy and even hostile to anyone who would try to get to know her. But HSHV does not give up on their animals. They have an extremely low kill rate; an animal has to be very very sick or very dangerous to be put down. The shelter is spotlessly clean. They'll keep a dog for months, putting it in foster care to get socialized, and they've healed many dogs with heartworm, and even healed pups with parvo. They have prosecuted cruelty cases as well. They rescue horses, cows, chickens, and bunnies, and every kind of pet, including lizards. I adopted three of my five pets from there. They are the first place I look when I decide to add to my pet family. They have vet services, a low cost vaccination clinic, a helpline for those having behavior problems with pets, and always take a pet back if things don't work out. I've volunteered there, and adopted most of my dogs and cats there over the years. I've turned in rescue animals there, and used their vet services. I couldn't live without them, and I'm grateful that they exist to show other shelters how to do it right.
