Review for Northwest Family Services, Portland, OR, USA
The first client I housed moved in to her apartment in November 2023. She was only 23 years old and had been homeless the entirety of her adulthood years. That spring before I met her, she had detoxed off fentanyl and left an abusive relationship. The day I moved her in, she could easily fit all her belongings into my small Toyota corolla with her two dogs. We bought furniture for her, and I helped her get food stamps and a bus pass. The first few months of living in her apartment, she got complaints because of her dogs barking and her abusive ex trying to visit often. She struggled with depression and would sleep through the day, and when I’d visit her apartment was often a mess.
Through coaching and meeting her where she’s at, she started building strong boundaries with people in her life. I supported her in setting routines with her dogs and for cleaning her apartment. I visited her this summer and she was smiling, vibrant, and excited to share she got a job as a receptionist and showed me that her apartment was clean – and well decorated! Her dogs were excited to see me but also tired from the walk she took them on earlier. She is in a happy, healthy relationship and has not heard from her ex in months. She has not gotten complaints from neighbors or property management in months. We are so proud of her and her growth since starting our program!
