I joined Uptown Stories as a student about 7 years ago, and since then I've had such an amazing experience, getting to know others in my community who are just as eager as me to explore the creative side of them. I've gotten to know amazing teachers, get help from all of the great volunteers, and find a part of myself in this community that loves to write, as well as express myself through writing. I've volunteered recently to help out, and it's no different. It's amazing getting to be on both sides of the spectrum, getting to help out kids who want to see where their writing, art, or thoughts can take them, and getting to be that person who's still learning and finding out who they are. I've enjoyed the multiple different workshops offered, from poetry, to fiction, to horror, and even to the ones I didn't take but seem interesting, like screenwriting or comics. I've been able to share my work, something that, before starting this program, I didn't feel comfortable with. Yet Uptown Stories helped me open up and find confidence in my voice and what I have to say. I'm so glad to be a part of the Uptown Stories community, and to have been able to grow up with it.
