I had the privilege of working with A Call to College as an advisor this past year. Although my career path has taken me elsewhere, ACTC will always have a special place in my heart. From the advising meetings, programming, events, to all the hours in between, these ladies work tirelessly to provide premium service to NCS students. I worked as an advisor but had the opportunity to help with many other aspects of ACTC. Two of my favorite events (I cannot pick one) are the College Application Blitz and Kids to College. I believe I cannot pick one because both are such critical events for students. Kids to College isn’t just showing students pictures of college campuses and discussing it in class, it’s well thought out lesson plans that conclude with taking rambunctious, eager to learn 6th graders to a college campus. It blew my mind the planning and thoroughness that went into this endeavor. I had 6th graders that got to sit in a science lab and see what “class” would really be like in college. How impactful is that?! Then College Application Blitz, something I got to promote to my students in our advising sessions and then see unfold. Schools all around Ohio were there to assist students with applying to college, a hurdle that very easily can deter students. It amazes me that this was an opportunity for students. I hope to continue my own personal journey with ACTC, keep me on the volunteer roster!
