Kiva does an incredible job - I've been a lender with them for a number of years, and it's very heartwarming to be able to make a difference to people all over the world who are pulling themselves up by their bootstraps. Their methodology (which often involves lending to groups who work together and help each other be accountable), increases the percentage of loans that get paid up. Because they do all the research and the behind-the-scenes work to improve the process, I can invest with confidence - all my loans (I've made nearly 100) have gone well except for a small number where I took a greater chance. I trust them, and their customer service is excellent as well - they really do get back to you and quickly.
