I was interested in adopting a young small dog (had Labradors for 40+ years but no longer can handle big dogs). I at the time I had a 12yo female Basenji/Terrier mix & a 5yo male Chihuahua/Min-Pin mix so a match for them was critical. I asked Kickie (I know from my vet’s office) about Save An Angel. She immediately showed me pics of several puppies in the program. I filled out their application and was contacted by Alma to schedule a meet/greet. While all the pups were very sweet, one in particular (Sandy) kept jumping in my lap. Having done Labrador rescue work for 17yrs (co-founder of Heart of Texas Lab Rescue), I always found the best matches are when the dog picks the human. So I asked to adopt Sandy, a 5mo female Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix. After they did a home visit the same day, Sandy came to stay. She is such character… loves to retrieve, pesters Tango (Chihuahuas mix) and is a cuddle bug & clown. Save an Angel does amazing work to ensure the dogs in their care are medically sound and ensures their adoptions match the humans’ needs, lifestyle and are placed in safe homes.
