I have given monthly support to a world relief organization since I got my first minimum-wage job at 18. I have always felt passionately about this. I learned about Outreach International (out of Kansas City MO) when I was 40 and switched my monthly giving to them. O.I. is a forerunner in sustainable change. They work with community groups to help THEM define their greatest needs, mentoring them towards solutions step by step -- not simply advocating for them but teaching them the needed skills to advocate for themselves. The money I give does not only aid immediate needs, it goes towards long-term solutions that start with building community cooperation and strength. Outreach has a great track record for lifting/educating communities who once felt powerless and hopeless. I put my money on them!
