Review for Hope's Corner Inc, Mountain View, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The place to go to where you're always welcome is Hope's Corner. I am
involuntarily retired early from a very fascinating technology career
that no longer exists since the Great Recession. I'm not the only one
affected by massive layoffs at that time. A large number of small
technology startup companies, which are not large enough to be
required to give 6 months advanced notice of layoffs, all cut
workforce in lock-step all at the same time. Silicon Valley became
infamous for being the number one in homelessness in the country.

The place that has helped me through difficulties is Hope's Corner. I
enjoy brunch on Saturdays in the dining room of the Trinity Methodist
Church. I see many veterans, senior citizens, and lots of other
people like me who have no career or lost a good career through no
fault of their own. I hear several languages in the dining room and
Hope's Corner serves all. Everyone gets a fresh nutritious hot meal, a
choice of beverage, an optional second hot meal in a box to take home,
and an optional brown bag lunch snack. Hope's Corner's volunteers are
the gold medal winners of charitable service. Hope's Corner's
volunteers have thought of everything from nutrition to logistics of
cold and hot food transportation, preparation, cooking, and serving to
hundreds of grateful guests. Hope's Corner does more than serve
brunch several time per week. I just enjoy the meals and don't take
more so that others can benefit from the many other services available
at Hope's Corner.

I also noticed that Hope's Corner is environmentally friendly. The
take home hot food box is compostable paper not styrofoam. The cold
and hot beverage cups are compostable paper not toxic plastic. For
carrying out, Hope's Corner provides compostable paper bags not the
environmentally polluting plastic. Hope's Corner's volunteers separate
compostable food waste from trash minimizing the impact on the
environment.

If someone were to ask "What's so great about Hope's Corner?", my
guess would be that the volunteers would probably be too humble to say
anything. Hope's Corner does not do anything exceptional by any
stretch of the imagination. Hope's Corner does a lot of ordinary
things exceptionally well. Hope's Corner's volunteers are saints in
disguised in plain sight, but at first you wouldn't know it as the
volunteers are ordinary, normal people who care about the community
and express it by their good deeds and giving nutritious meals to the
community. Many years of dedication to service is what makes Hope's
Corner great.
