can I please have a zillion more stars to rate APCC? this place is amazing! my first visit was in 2011 - a gift from a friend. I was immediately in love! I have taken many opportunities to bring family members and friends to visit. the tours are fantastic - given by very knowledgeable volunteers who introduce you to the species, the conservation efforts needed to keep the species' habitats across the world intact, and even individual stories about the residents. and you learn something new with every tour! the founders are so passionate in their mission for these animals and animals worldwide, and more than happy to share and educate.
the facility is fantastic - animal habitats are immaculate, the result of an amazing team of staff and volunteers' love and devotion to residents' welfare. staff and volunteers are trained to recognize behaviors and physical conditions, so that they are addressed (if needed) immediately. the construction team ensures that dens and hammocks and other structures are always perfect for the animals' comfort and enrichment.
I started volunteering a few years ago, and have come to realize the community at APCC is like family (only we don't fight!) - it's always a pleasure to see everyone! I started adopting too - my beautiful Jungle Cat boy, Aten. but adoption is like potato chips - you can't have just one!!! I have also adopted our beautiful princess Serval, Akai, and the world's cutest Binturong, Baloo. the adoption program is great because you are allowed (and encouraged) to develop relationships with your critters. it also results in an increased awareness and passion for animal welfare.
APCC is my happy place, and I'll never leave! this place needs to be shared with everyone!
