I found this nonprofit through a school trip where we were learning about dolphin assisted therapy. During our trip the Island Dolphin Care family really invited us in for 3 days to learn all about the amazing work they do here. They showed us everything from diet preps to fun enrichment sessions to the deep water swims they do with therapy clients. It was such an education and wonderful experience that I decided to apply for their summer internship program. Alyssa, the intern coordinator, has creating an amazing program that covers academics, hands-on learning, and more. Compared to other, similar dolphin care and training internships it stands out for the well rounded interns that emerge. Island dolphin care puts so much effort into their therapy programs and they are truly one of a kind experiences for these families. The animal care staff is always there to advocate for the health and safety of the dolphins. I know that these animals are getting the best possible care and the clients are benefiting from their time here.
