Review for Local Hope Guatemala / Xela AID Partnerships for Self Reliance, Sunset Beach, CA, USA
As a non-profit consultant who has led several wholistic and wrap around service organizations in Guatemala in the past 37 years, it is sometimes hard to surprise me, but Xela Aid has, and only in the most positive ways. The local Guatemala leadership has welcomed me for partnership meetings working on pandemic pivots and I have also stayed in the eco guest house several times, always receiving warm hospitality, great food, but mostly a bird´s eye view into how things ¨really work. ¨ The words continuity, consistency, integrity, joy and honor come to mind. The way in which the local leadership, ED, Board of Directors and partners work together, respect each other and remain truly equal in voice is phenomenal, something I rarely see in my line of work. Watching the Montessori teachers with their students, seeing the computer lab full of bright-eyed young people, observing the way the medical staff explains clearly and compassionately in the Mam language what the next steps are for a patient, have all been highlights for me. The quality of services, intentionality surrounding sustainability and just plain practical execution of ideals and values, make this a non-profit worthy to serve with, visit, to learn from to help others and definitely to financially support.
