I am Prosper Abewini Atuase a final year BSc. Chemical Engineering student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Being the youngest child among nine siblings, I encountered the predicament of discontinuing my education after completing my first year at the university. My parents made all possible efforts to cover my first year expenses. During my initial year on campus, I had to engage in menial jobs to sustain myself. Consequently, I had limited time for academic pursuits, which had a detrimental impact on my performance during the first semester examination. Despite achieving an excellent result, I believed I could have performed better. Unfortunately, my academic performance did not improve as the semesters progressed. In fact, it deteriorated with each passing semester. I recognized the solution to my predicament. I needed to cease the menial jobs and devoted my full attention to my studies.

However, the question of survival loomed large. The uncertainty of procuring my next meal plagued my nights. This situation spiraled out of control during my second year at the university. I arrived on campus with no idea of how I would pay my tuition or support myself, as my parents had exhausted all resources for my first year expenses. I was left with only two options: defer my course or hope for a miracle. When all hope seemed lost and I contemplated deferring my course, a fellow student introduced me to Educational Pathways International (EPI) and encouraged me to apply. Although I applied, I held little hope of securing the scholarship due to the high number of applicants.

Fortunately, I received an invitation for interviews and successfully passed all of them, ultimately being awarded the scholarship in my second year. This marked a pivotal moment for both myself and my family. EPI altered the trajectory of my life, enabling me to pursue my aspirations and ambitions. The scholarship has not only transformed my academic journey but also influenced my social life. My academic performance has shown signs of improvement, and with each passing day, I feel closer to realizing my dreams. This scholarship not only addresses my financial needs, but also enhances my confidence, public speaking abilities, and writing skills through participation in seminars and leadership programs.
Moreover, this scholarship has been an immensely transformative experience, equipping me with the necessary resources and opportunities to achieve my goals and make a meaningful impact on the world.

However, I am a diligent and enthusiastic student of chemical engineering. My utmost aspiration is to bring about significant positive transformations in the realm of chemical engineering for the betterment of society. Chemical engineers possess the chance to make noteworthy contributions to society through the development of novel technologies and processes that enhance our daily existence. They fulfill a pivotal role in tackling global challenges such as climate change, energy sustainability, and food production.
Therefore, following the completion of my degree, I aim to pursue a profession in Process engineering. Process Engineers are responsible for the design and optimization of chemical processes employed in manufacturing facilities to generate chemicals, fuels, pharmaceuticals, and various other products. Their objective is to ensure that these processes are efficient, secure, and environmentally conscious.

I ardently wish to repay society through the creation of sustainable technologies that can aid in diminishing our impact on the environment, such as the design of more effective energy sources or the production of biodegradable materials. Additionally, I aspire to serve as a mentor and educator to the next generation of engineers, thus inspiring and enlightening the leaders of tomorrow.
