Review for Educational Pathways International, Incline Village, NV, USA
My name is Safiu Sumani Benin. I am currently pursuing a degree in BSc. Biomedical Engineering at the University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana. I am in my 3rd year of my studies.
The Educational Pathways International (EPI) scholarship program has had a tremendous impact on my life and academics. Being awarded this scholarship has provided me the opportunity to pursue my studies at the premier university without financial burden. It has molded me into a more focused and hardworking student aiming to excel in my chosen field.
I chose Biomedical Engineering because I am passionate about healthcare and developing solutions that can improve medical treatments and quality of life. Specifically, I am much interested in rehabilitation engineering. Growing up, I have seen a lot of disability people at homes and on the streets. I naturally tend to feel sympathetic towards them, but I realized that sympathizing would not bring any change. Instead, I need to show real empathy and support for people with disabilities. So, I decided to study Biomedical Engineering and specialize in rehabilitation so that I can bring change to society. With the skills I gain, I hope to contribute to advancing healthcare access and technology in Ghana.
The EPI scholarship has also transformed me into a grateful and socially conscious person. I now understand the value of giving back to society and plan to help empower other youth in my community after graduation. I intend to use my expertise in biomedical engineering to develop affordable medical and rehabilitation devices and help set up low-cost healthcare systems to serve remote and underprivileged populations in Ghana. With this, I can say I will be a step closer to helping the disability in society.
I am extremely grateful to EPI for investing in my education and future careers. This scholarship has not only enabled me to pursue my dreams, but also instilled in me the qualities of responsibility, excellence and caring for others. I appreciate EPI's vision and mission to support the education of brilliant but needy students in developing countries like Ghana. Thanks to EPI, I can now focus on my academics and prepare for a career where I can positively impact lives back home.
