Review for Strays & Others Inc, New Canaan, CT, USA
My husband, Barry and I adopted Lenny 4.5 years ago at Strays and Others. At the time he was between two and three years old. Apparently Lenny appeared one day at their front door. I guess he heard that this was a great place to hang out until he found his forever home.
Our Benji had passed away and our other cat Cassie was lonely. After grieving for three months, we decided that we were all ready for a new family member. We came across Strays and Others online and decided to visit. We though Lenny had a twinkle in his eye and was very handsome. When we arrived Lenny was at the window looking out at us. We came a little early and Claudia (the founder) had not yet arrived. We took the extra time to greet Lenny through the glass window. It seemed as if Lenny had chosen us and he was expecting our arrival (I believe in these kind of things.) We spent about ninety minutes with him and decided that he was the one.
Lenny arrived the day after Thanksgiving with Claudia and another volunteer (Betsy, I think) and they stayed for about an hour to make sure Lenny was safe and the transition was smooth for him. After about a week, we introduced the cats to each other and there was the normal sniffing and hissing, but that quickly changed and in a matter of days with supervision, Cassie and Lenny made friends.
Lenny is a soulful fellow and has turned into a love bug. He cuddles and I think he can tell time as he meows on cue at mealtimes. Unfortunately, our Cassie passed away from lymphoma last Christmas, and it broke our hearts. After a long grieving period, we were ready to open our hearts to a new kitty. We turned to Strays and Others again because we trusted them. They are a wonderful, caring, and professional organization. We drove out two weeks ago, and met Honey. We fell in love with her, and we are awaiting her arrival.
If you are thinking of adopting, go to Strays and Others. They are "good people" and well run. I am concerned becasue they need financial help to keep being a safe haven for cats and dogs. If you are considering donating to help animals, please think of them. They deserve the assistance. Strays and Others is like no other shelter I have ever seen. It is very personal and beautifully set up for the animal's comfort.
