Review for Healing Touch Buddies, Inc, JUNO BEACH, FL, USA
The Service that Healing Touch Buddies provides for women (and men) dealing with breast cancer is not only wonderful, it is the necessary part of compassionate medicine that has been missing in our profession. I have been an oncology nurse for 23 years and a hospice nurse for 5 years. I am also a CHTP and a Healing Touch Buddy.....It has given me a chance to view both sides of the chemo chair. Enlightening, rewarding, and so needed. I finally feel like I am doing true nursing, with presence. Thank you Betty Ann!!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
working directly with clients. Observing them become more peaceful, more empowered and in control. Quality of life improves as stress is reduced. Many times symptoms from treatment will decrease if not disappear completely. Its amazing!!
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Find more ways to communicate this information to Medical and Health based facilities. I would like to see more awareness events that involve the Buddies and the clients together,building realationships and strenghtening the awareness within the community
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Participating completely in someone elses care, being able to be totally present for this person, then seeing the results as a stronger, more empowered human being emerges. I love being a part of that, that is real nursing.

The people that are involved with HTB are exactly what the mission says they are. They are heart centered compassionate, open to voluntering their time to offer support to someone in need.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Become part of the care plan for all breast cancer patients. With proper funding HTB could educate Cancer facilities and Doctors offices to the service we provide. Clients paticipate in a more positive role by being active in moving toward self wellness.
Ways to make it better...
If I could find a way to bring more awareness to this program. Not enough MDs and Women"s Centers/Cancer Centers are not aware that this type of service exists. So many more could benefit from this if we could get the word out.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
HTB depends alot on fund raising to survive, and with the times being what they are it has become more difficult. We have applied for several grants and are waiting. Our challenge is bringing new awareness through our good service on a tight budget.
One thing I'd also say is that...
I have been a Healing Touch Buddy for 3 years. I have had 5 buddies, I have walked the journey from mastectomy, chemo, radiation, remission and sometimes transition. Every experience is a beautiful lesson. We are here to nurture each other. I am blessed.
