Unfortunately, Heifer's gifts of cows, goats and sheep contribute to the major cause of tropical deforestation, which is 75% caused by the clearing of land for animal agriculture. This deforestation is accelerating and is leading to the twin crises of climate breakdown and biodiversity extinction, which threatens all life on earth including ourselves. Therefore one really should not give to Heifer until they stop promoting animal agriculture.
