Review for K9s For Warriors, Ponte Vedra, FL, USA
I am a disabled veteran with a 100% service connection for PTSD. I am a survivor of military sexual trauma while serving in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. I have done all kinds of therapy to try help with my PTSD.
I first heard about what service dogs can do to help veterans with PTSD.while i was in a residential treatment facility. I heard about K9s for Warriors while searching on Google.
I called K9s for Warriors and spoke to them about their program and everyone I spoke to had such a positive, upbeat attitude. I was pleased with what I had heard so I applied.
I was accepted and started my training in November 2022. I spent 3 weeks at the Florida campus. They flew me down there, housed me on campus and fed me the entire time I was there at no expense to me.
My service dogs name is April. She is a AKC registered black Labrador Retriever.
Prior to getting April, I would never leave my house to go to the store, family events, and festivals, flea markets, etc due to my anxiety. Since getting April, I do all those things because she gives me the confidence to know that she has my back. She has been taught several commands but the most important one for me is the "My Lap" command because if I'm feeling depressed or anxious April puts me at ease.
I still see a therapist every week and she even states that she sees a big difference in what April has done for me.
K9s for Warriors is a non profit organization that gets the money they need to provide these service dogs to disabled veterans through individual donors like you and me and they have some corporate donors as well. Unfortunately it takes money to make this happen but 100% of your donations go into the training, housing and feeding these dogs. It also helps pay to get these veterans to the campuses, to house these veterans and feed them.
I can't say enough on how well everyone took care of April and i while I was at the Florida campus
The other thi g they do is they have quarterly advocacy zoom meetings with spouses and families to discuss all different kinds of subject matter regarding the service dog as well as answer any questions the family might .
.
I would recommend this organization to any veteran that is suffering from PTSD, military sexual trauma as well as Tramtic Brain Injury.
April has saved my life.
Please help this organization by donating.
Thank you

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would not change a thing. They really have it down.
