Review for National Humane Education Society, Charles Town, WV, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have been volunteering at NHES and the Briggs Animal Adoption Center for just under six months. After every visit I leave with a smile and feeling of joy. The dogs and cats are clearly loved and well cared for by a team of dedicated staff (and volunteers).
This is an organization that truly reflects its mission of fostering kindness to animals by children and adults. I witnessed this first hand many times. When helping with summer camp for middle school students, I saw how Megan and other staff taught the youth about animal behavior and how to be kind to the animals, while everyone was having lots of fun. Even at several of the fundraising events, that I assisted at, the staff made sure the animals, participants, staff and volunteers were considered. For example, there were cooling stations for the dogs, activities for the children, educational materials about the organization and lots of thanks for everyone.
The volunteer coordinator Ellen, is patient with all. She makes sure that every volunteer feels comfortable and enjoys there time with the animals. I have watched Ellen, Keisha and other staff go above and beyond to meet the needs of the dogs and cats. While I am at the facility walking dogs, the staff are very welcoming to me, but it is also clear that they are very familiar and affectionate about the animals.
The facility is clean and the grounds are well maintained. Though finding loving, long term homes for the animals is a priority, the dogs and cats are loved tremendously by staff and volunteers of NHES/BAAC. The more time I volunteer with this organization, the more impressed I am and the more I feel like part of a caring network.
