Review for American Bird Conservancy, Marshall , VA, USA
I just retired from over 18 years with ABC, so I know the organization, its work and its people very well, and I can say without reservation that ABC is one of the best conservation organizations there is. As a conservation professional, I worked with half a dozen other federal and state agencies and conservation NGOs over the years, but my experience at ABC defined my career and the work we did over those 18+ years is what I am most proud of - not just the work I was directly involved in, but what we as an organization accomplished. ABC's work spans the hemisphere and, increasingly, well beyond. The organization's strategic approach means that it actively engages on conserving the most imperiled species, ensuring that landscape-level approaches are protecting habitats for more widespread species (both at home and abroad), addressing anthropogenic threats to birds, advocating for policies that safeguard birds, and building the conservation community. And all of this is accomplished without ego - ABC partners with other conservation NGOs, government agencies, the scientific community, and like-minded individuals to just get the job done. We all know that there is a myriad of threats facing our environment. It is daunting, but birds provide a compelling face to our environmental challenges. We see birds all the time. They symbolize all that is good and vital in nature, and so are animals we can rally around. ABC truly cares about birds, but does so with the knowledge that protecting birds helps so many other organisms at the same time. While birds provide a focus for ABC's work, its impact extends well beyond. I could go on - I obviously believe in ABC. Now that I have retired from ABC, I will continue to support ABC as a donor, and I encourage others to do the same. It's a sound investment in our future.
