Review for The Center For Anti-Violence Education Inc, Brooklyn, NY, USA
I took a self-defense course at CAE 14 years ago and felt a connection to the organization that I didn't expect - like this is where I belong. CAE's social philosopy and strong sense of community made me feel safe, strong and whole. For example, at age 61, I started karate and have been training ever since. In anothe environment, being decades older than other students, would be intimidating. The respect, support and encouragement shown to me by the CAE community is shown to each individual whatever their age or circumstance. This philosophy, woven into the fabric of CAE, filters through each of us who are privileged to be a member of the CAE community.

acceptance as a senior citizen among students and community members who are decades younger than I am; new friends of all ages; gained knowledge of a community of varied socio-economic backgrounds which made me a better person.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
give more money to CAE so they can hire more staff to do 1)more off-site anti-violence workshops; 2) have an in-house program for teenage boys.
