Review for Animal Park at the Conservators Center, Burlington, NC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I cannot express (5 stars are not sufficient) what this place means to me! After a tour in 2013, I applied to be a volunteer, began training two weeks later, and have been part of the park as both a volunteer and adopter of multiple animals ever since. I know firsthand the excellent care the animals receive, and I am proud to “spoil” them regularly with extra treats, scent enrichment, and even music. The people, both staff and fellow volunteers, are united in working tirelessly not only for these animals but also for those in the wild; our focus remains on education and conservation. I am forever thankful I stumbled across a Groupon for this place 11 years ago!

One of the best decisions I have ever made, was booking a tour here, a little over 10 years ago. My tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the animals on both an academic and personal level; I not only learned about the species, but the particular animals and their stories as well. Not surprisingly, I fell in love with those animals and decided on the spot to sign up for volunteer training. Having been privileged to be a part of this nonprofit’s mission for the past 10 years, I can say with all confidence that the Animal Park is the very definition of a successful nonprofit. The animals receive top-notch care from a professional and dedicated team of keepers, and the volunteers are thoroughly trained and regularly updated to provide the best experience for visitors and for the animal residents. In addition to the expected level of care, the animals receive regular stimulation in terms of new enrichment items in their habitats, scent enrichment from the on-site herb garden, and food and other tasty treats from their adopters. I have been a proud “parent” to several lions and tigers over the past eight years, and I treasure every visit with them.. They receive regular and effective socialization, so visitors can expect some interaction and personal attention from them while on tour. Whether you come for a privately guided tour, or for a special event, you are sure to have an excellent experience at the Animal Park. I am honored to be part of it story, and I look forward to the next 10 years!
