It was easy for me to accept my son's disability, but we still live in a world where many people are not aware of the difficulties and limits that are placed on the population that Camp serves. People like my son are often outsiders looking in, not knowing how to join in and sometimes being excluded intentionally. My son has been involved in Camp CAMP programs and events for over ten years. He never had to worry about fitting in, being accepted, or seen as too difficult to relate to or to engage with. Camp CAMP provides a safe place, fun activities, overnight camps, and caring, enthusiastic staff for him to grow and learn with appropriate support. The heart and soul of Camp CAMP is its staff, who seem, miraculously, to be perfect fits for their respective jobs. Camp CAMP also instills in me a sense of gratitude for such a giving, vital organization and the employees who are "all in". I can drop off my son and have a sense of relief that he is somewhere where he is valued and seen as a part of this world, his world, and there are kind and caring people everywhere if you just know where to look.
