The DiepC Foundation has made a profound impact on my life and many others. Not only does this organization provide education and resources to empower those affected by breast cancer to make informed decisions about breast reconstruction after a mastectomy, but it has created a large community with those people who provide support and connections to others. Founder Terri Coutee provides a wealth of information through a blog, videos, podcasts, a Facebook community, and more.

Through the Foundation, I was able to find all the information I needed to make informed decisions for my own prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction in 2018. This information was invaluable in helping me figure out how to choose a surgeon, what questions to ask, what to expect throughout the process, and provided me with firsthand knowledge of various providers and their track records. Throughout the surgical process the Foundation’s community provided a place to ask questions and commiserate, which was good for my mental well-being. After completing my journey, the Foundation has offered me a place to share my stories and help others through their own journeys.
