Since I was released from the Army in 2006, I had been volunteering in various settings whether it be solo or with other groups. In 2018, I received an email from The Mission Continues Austin Platoon about a Christmas social event that they were having. I thought to myself that my family and I should go because we love free food! Little did I know that my life would change for the better as a result of this organization. Shortly after meeting the Austin platoon, my husband and I went to a service event at a diaper bank in Austin where I felt like I was back in uniform. I felt like a member of a team. I told myself that I had finally found my "tribe". Since then, I have worked hard with the Killeen Platoon and am now the Platoon Leader. I encourage all veterans, family members, and civilians that if you're looking for a sense of purpose and to be apart of something great, to find a platoon near you. You'll thank me later!
