Review for Kids Who Count, Salem, UT, USA
I was lucky enough to be acquainted with Kids Who Count as a parent and a board member. Our journey started when our daughter, Avery, was six weeks old. She started receiving occupational and visual therapy in our home once a week. Along with the therapists, a nurse would come and check on Avery. These three ladies became part of our family. Our entire family looked forward to Wednesdays. The therapists brought toys, they brought tools, and they taught us to best help Avery achieve her small milestones. It was with their help that we taught Avery to use her limited eyesight to track and focus on our faces. It was also with their help that we increased Avery’s ability to use her limited mobility to communicate with us. We were able to help her hold her head up and use her forearm muscles to activate switches. These ladies helped us navigate the first three scary years of Avery’s life. They were there to cry with us when we were given Avery’s diagnosis, they were there to cheer her on when she first hit a switch, and they were there for all the day to day joys and concerns. We will forever be thankful to Kids Who Count for all their help with our daughter. After our daughter passed away at the age of five, I decided that I wanted to give back to the program that had meant so much to us. I have now served on the board for three years and am impressed by all the things I see on the back end of this nonprofit. The people who work for Kids Who Count are amazing!
