Review for American Bird Conservancy, Marshall , VA, USA
American Bird Conservancy is one of the most effective of the conservation non-profits, in my opinion. As a retired Wildlife Biologist with 14 years of experience on an ESA bird recovery team, I appreciate the critical importance of securing habitat to protect birds and other organisms. In particular, I believe that ABC's efforts at habitat (ecosystem) protection and restoration of threatened species in Central and South America are critically important to ensure the retention of as much natural diversity as possible on the planet. I am also thrilled that ABC is working with government and private partners to save the remaining Hawaiian honey creeper species.
Their wonderful magazine chronicling these efforts had been a source of inspiration to me for many years. By highlighting the many projects that they are involved in, and including superb photographs, ABC has created awareness and appreciation among the readers of many new species, their plights, and ongoing conservation efforts.
I contend that American Bird Conservancy is a peer organization with National Audubon Society, Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, and The Nature Conservancy. ABC, and its many fine scientists, should be recognized and celebrated.
