July of 2023, a colleague and I held a summer program for 4th grade/ 5th grade students. The distance of a marathon ( 26.2 miles) was completed by each participant by the end of the program. We did some YOGA and most importantly, we created using the EXPRESS IT! journals and had the space to share our pages. The students LOVED the journals and through sharing the purpose of the pages- the students were able to reflect on their own experiences and think more deeply about what was important, how they listen to their inner voices. Pairing exercise with the journaling, I think provided a powerful combination on how to cope with stress/ make healthy lifestyle choices too , I loved the secure space the students created. They really appreciated the gift of the journals too. I think the journals are something they will add to at home.... thank you FREE TO LUV. Your program invited the children to share , create , listen and learn. We hung the banner in the dining hall at our first ever overnight ecology camp too.... YOU MATTER!
