I first became involved with MATHCOUNTS when I was a college student majoring in engineering. I was invited to volunteer at the Chapter Competition in the early 2000s. This is the first I have ever heard of MATHCOUNTS and I was amazed by the event. The number of middle school students who showed up to do math on a Saturday and the number volunteers who showed up to make sure the program ran smoothly. I had no idea there were so many people who had the same love of math as me! I continued to volunteer every year and eventually was asked if I was interested in being the coordinator. Here it is 2023 and I am still coordinating the Chapter Competition. I love that MATHCOUNTS has programs for all levels and interests. I am so glad there is a program that recognizes students for excelling at math.
