I have volunteered for, and adopted cats and dogs from, the APA for many years. Among the many great things about this shelter, one that impresses me is their medical service for animals in their care. Some examples: at least 20 years ago, they began pediatric spay/neuter, while other shelters were adopting out intact animals that could contribute to the overpopulation problem. They began treating dogs for heartworm when others did not. Similarly, they adopt cats with FeLV and FIV, making adopters aware of those conditions. They do dentals. They have a hospice foster program. Staff really are committed to providing the best care possible.
