The Girls Inc. of Shelbyville and Shelby County have used the EXPRESS IT! books since earlier this year! We have absolutely loved using this program! We have been able to implement it into our after-school program as well as during summer camp. The girls were able to express themselves through art and creativity. Our staff that facilitated the program helped create a safe space for the girls to express themselves and share with their peers about their experiences. I witnessed the girls grow in many ways and connect with one another more based on their shared experiences! They have been able to learn how to identify thoughts, feelings, and emotions and how to navigate them. They also have been able to become more self-aware when it comes to relationships with others and their self-identity. Overall, this program has been extremely beneficial to the youth we serve and has provided them with an opportunity to be their authentic selves!
