I have been an Administrative Assistant Intern with drawchange for the past nine weeks, and I've learned so much in this process. Coming into my internship, I believed that drawchange did great work, but I was skeptical of their claims that art could really change children's lives. But, I witnessed firsthand how much their art therapy-based programming truly did. There was one day when I was bringing two children to Art Camp, one from the homeless shelter and the other from the hospital, and they were both so sad. I didn't know the right words to say to make them feel better or what I could do to help. I had to coax them out of the car and all the way to the doors, but then, it was almost like a miracle: they started working on the art project and slowly, slowly they started talking to me again until it was like nothing had ever been wrong. It was an incredibly impactful moment for me and just one of many such moments I had with drawchange. Working on the administrative side showed me how dedicated the drawchange staff was to the mission of drawchange and their belief that they really could impact these children's lives. drawchange is a wonderful organization whose work really does make a difference.
